1. The Jerk
Let’s face it, we all know that one person. It seems like you can find them in
just about any law school section, office, or professional setting. Maybe
they’re a bit “braggy,” a know-it-all, or just happen to flash that Rolex one too
many times an hour – either way, the best way to deal with this person is just
to follow your mom’s advice: if you have nothing nice to say, then don’t say it
at all. And if that doesn’t work for you, sit back and relax – only three years of
dodging corners and strategically mapping out seating charts as a class.
2. That Awesome Professor
This is the professor you reminisce about years later. Maybe even the one
you credit your career path to. If Dos Equis had a law school rep, they would
be it. They seem to make every subject cooler, have the answer to just about
everything, and still manage to make it to salsa dancing on the weekends.
Your new law school goal is to one day amass as much quirkiness and
charisma while keeping poised and professional like Professor Awesome.
3. The Jack of All Trades
This person may also be affectionately thought of as “the Ryan Seacrest” of
law school. They’re pretty much everywhere and typically liked by everyone.
They’ll plan almost every function, run several clubs and probably work
several jobs while still managing to graduate early. You’ll marvel at their
seemingly endless amounts of energy while you chew on that microwave
pizza you barely had the patience to warm.
4. The Over- Achiever
This is pretty much the stereotypical law student: competitive, driven, and
definitely more of a morning person than you’ll ever be. Law students have
collectively dubbed these students “gunners” - and they tend to live up to the
name. While they’ll probably end up with the better summer position, you’d
secretly never trade your Thursday night bar review adventures for that top-
ten ranking.
5. The Non-Lawyer
You’re not really sure why this person decided to subject themselves to the
magical three year commitment that is law school – and neither are they.
This person has pretty much no desire to practice law but this is what makes
them fun to be around. They tend to be more relaxed, easier to talk to during
finals week and – let’s face it, they have all the best “what I did during winter
break” stories.
6. The One
This is your soul mate - not necessarily in the life- partner kind of way, but
someone who understands you. The only person who won’t ask you how that
contracts final went (not well). The one that Netflix binges with you when
you should be working on that memo. The lifelong friend you’ll end up
reminiscing with about the law school days years to come. Hang on to this
person! They’ll be one of the best parts of your law school experience…
among other things.
